How we handle the information you send us

Decanate Foundry is a small briefing house, not an advertising network. We collect as little as the work requires, keep it in the UK, and will delete it when you ask — unless the law says we must keep it.

Who we are

The data controller is Decanate Foundry, East Scryne Farm, Carnoustie DD7 6LL, UK. Contact: [email protected]. We are established in Scotland and process personal data under the UK GDPR and the Data Protection Act 2018.

What we collect

If you email us or use the contact form, we receive the name, email address, topic, and message you choose to send, plus whatever your mail system attaches. We do not run an account system, a newsletter pump, or a paywall.

Server logs on the host that serves this site may record IP address, browser type, and the pages requested. Those logs exist to keep the site up and to investigate abuse. They are not a marketing profile.

Why we process it

Legitimate interests (UK GDPR Article 6(1)(f)): answering your query, keeping a record of corrections, and defending the site against abuse. We do not sell data. We do not run targeted advertising.

Cookies

The only cookie-like storage this site sets is decanatefoundry_consent, written to local storage when you accept or reject cookies, so we do not ask again. It is strictly necessary to remember that choice. We do not use analytics pixels, ad trackers, or social plugins that drop third-party cookies.

How long we keep it

Correspondence is kept for up to two years unless a legal claim, a correction record, or a bookkeeping duty needs it longer. Consent records are kept for as long as we operate this banner. Logs rotate on the host’s normal schedule.

Your rights

  • Access a copy of the personal data we hold about you.
  • Rectify inaccurate data.
  • Erase data we no longer need (with legal limits).
  • Restrict or object to processing based on legitimate interests.
  • Complain to the Information Commissioner’s Office at ico.org.uk.

To exercise a right, email [email protected] from the address the data relates to. We will respond within one month.

Processors and transfers

Email you send us is processed by whatever mail host sits behind [email protected]. The website host processes server logs. We do not intend to transfer your data outside the UK. We do not use your correspondence to train public AI models.

Children

This site is written for adults working on media, law, and civic life. We do not knowingly collect data from children.
